Similar to many of the baby boomers, Bruce Dawson, one of the retirees in Lakewood Ranch, FL, left the corporate world early because he was in a position to do so. After stints as CFO of Dean and DeLuca, one of my favorite stops in Manhattan, and in Tampa where he was President of Kash & Karry, Dawson opted for “casual elegance” retiring in Sarasota, Florida.
First-wave retirees are some of the most affluent baby boomers, folks who can afford to retire starting at 50 in some cases.
They are entering retirement with more disposable income than generations that preceded them, or those within their own generation who will retire later.
