Property Tax Disclosure Summary
The property taxes on a listing sheet for Sarasota real estate is probably not going to be the amount of tax you will pay after your purchase. Call the Sarasota County Appraiser’s office if you have questions or visit their web site listed below.
A prospective purchaser of residential property must be given a written disclosure that a change in ownership could trigger a reassessment of the property, which would result in higher property taxes. This disclosure is given at or before the execution of a contract for sale and purchase. The disclosure can be incorporated into the contract or presented in a separate disclosure document. The disclosure must be in similar language:
Buyer should not rely on the seller’s current property taxes as the amount of property taxes that the buyer may be obligated to pay in the year subsequent to purchase. A change of ownership or property improvements triggers reassessments of the property that could result in higher property taxes.
